01. After abundance
Most political and economic systems were designed for a world in which intelligence, labor, production capacity, information and coordination were scarce. Artificial intelligence and robotics are beginning to weaken each of those constraints at the same time.
That does not make civilization easy. It changes the location of difficulty.
When intelligence becomes abundant, direction becomes scarce.
A machine may be able to generate a thousand strategies, design a thousand products or operate a thousand companies. That capacity does not answer which strategies should be pursued, whose welfare should count, which tradeoffs are acceptable, or who has the authority to decide.
The most consequential scarce resource of an intelligent civilization may therefore be neither energy nor compute. It may be legitimate, revisable direction.
02. The Culture problem
Iain M. Banks’ Culture stories imagine a civilization in which highly capable Minds administer abundance with extraordinary competence. Yet the central conflicts remain moral and political: whether to intervene in less developed societies, whether a predicted better outcome justifies manipulation, and whether benevolent power can preserve the autonomy of those it helps.
The Culture exposes a problem that will not disappear merely because our systems become intelligent:
How can a more capable intelligence improve human outcomes without turning its superior prediction into an unquestionable right to rule?
The naïve response is to give the intelligence the correct values. But values are plural, contextual and often in tension. Freedom can conflict with safety. Equality can conflict with autonomy. Short-term welfare can conflict with long-term resilience. The same action can help one population and harm another.
The deeper answer is not a perfect list. It is a perpetual process for discovering, contesting, testing and revising values—connected to real consequences and protected against the concentration of interpretive power.
03. From model alignment to civilization alignment
AI alignment is often framed as a property of a model: make the system truthful, harmless, corrigible and responsive to human intent. These properties matter. But a model never acts in a vacuum. It acts through companies, markets, governments, platforms and owners.
An aligned model placed inside a misaligned institution can still optimize extraction. A careful model deployed into an attention market can still become an engine of compulsion. A benevolent agent owned by a narrow group can still widen the distance between private capability and public power.
Therefore, alignment has at least three inseparable layers:
Valyous works on the second and third layers while connecting them back to the first. The aim is not to replace technical alignment research. It is to build the missing environment in which aligned intelligence can remain aligned after deployment.
04. Values are the last scarcity
Technology can make more things possible than civilization can coherently choose. The frontier therefore shifts from generating options to selecting among them.
Today, markets perform much of that selection. They are powerful because they compress distributed preferences into action. But they only see what their instruments can measure. Revenue is visible. Trust is not. Asset appreciation is visible. Avoided suffering is not. Engagement is visible. Durable understanding is not.
This creates a dangerous asymmetry: what is easiest to measure becomes easiest to optimize, and what is easiest to optimize absorbs the most power.
Valuation tells us what something is worth to capital. Valyous asks what it is worth to the world.
The purpose of Valyous is not to declare a single universal measure of goodness. It is to expand the number of valuable outcomes that can become visible, attributable and financeable—while keeping their definitions open to public challenge.
05. Values must remain alive
A value system becomes dangerous when it cannot admit error. Any mechanism powerful enough to direct capital or AI must therefore preserve uncertainty and dissent.
Valyous treats values as living hypotheses rather than sacred constants. A stated value becomes operational only after it passes through several tests:
This is why citizens’ assemblies, identity, provenance, causal measurement and markets belong in one thesis. Together, they form a path from preference to proof.
06. Re-capitalism
Capitalism is a market for power absorption. Organizations that can convert demand into measurable returns attract capital, talent, distribution and influence. This is not inherently malicious. It is an extraordinarily effective optimization system.
Its weakness is the objective function.
Re-capitalism does not ask markets to stop optimizing. It asks us to make more of what matters visible to the optimizer. It is a market for aligned power absorption: companies gain resources in proportion not only to what they can extract or sell, but to the verified value they create across the systems they touch.
From externalities as invisible side effects to outcomes as investable signals. From ownership based only on financing to ownership that can recognize contribution. From public benefit as a story to public benefit as auditable performance.
This could include value-weighted indices, outcome-linked securities, public-benefit prediction markets, virtual liquidity for community-financed companies, or new forms of attribution that recognize the identity provider, the originating insight, the community that de-risked adoption and the institution that created legitimacy.
Not every value should be financialized. The point is not to put a price on dignity. The point is to prevent systems that ignore dignity from automatically outcompeting systems that protect it.
07. The Valyous architecture
Valyous is a six-part learning loop. Each layer corrects a failure of the others.
1. Assemble
Internet-native citizens’ assemblies and stakeholder processes reveal priorities, disagreements and optimistic futures. The goal is not shallow consensus. It is a usable map of where people agree, where they do not, and which tradeoffs they are prepared to authorize.
2. Attribute
Identity, provenance, watermarking and causal analysis establish who or what contributed to an outcome. Attribution should be privacy-preserving, contestable and proportionate. It should recognize unseen contribution without constructing a total surveillance system.
3. Price
Markets, indices and financing mechanisms transform credible outcomes into capital signals. The measurement remains plural: different communities may value the same outcome differently, and the system should expose rather than erase that difference.
4. Build
An agentic venture studio creates companies that pursue mutual good. Each company is a controlled intervention into the world and a test of whether aligned outcomes can produce durable enterprise value.
5. Distribute
Ownership and gains flow back to builders, communities, data providers, originators and affected stakeholders. Distribution is not charity after value creation. It is part of the value architecture itself.
6. Learn
Observed results update the models, market weights and public mandates. Failures remain legible. Definitions can change. No layer receives permanent authority over the others.
08. The company as experiment
A conventional research lab learns by studying. A venture studio learns by intervening. Valyous combines the two.
The studio does not begin by attempting to solve civilization in one product. It launches narrow systems that expose a valuable piece of the architecture: an identity mechanism that properly rewards the originator, a marketplace that makes an external benefit legible, an assembly that produces an actionable mandate, or a company whose mutual-good outcome can be measured against a conventional competitor.
Successful components become reusable infrastructure. Failed companies still produce knowledge. The portfolio becomes a recursive alignment engine: studio to company to evidence to better studio.
Eventually, a sufficiently trusted name can itself become a container of newly perceived value. “Built by Valyous” should mean that a company has made its objective visible, its affected stakeholders audible, its contributions attributable and its learning public.
09. Choose the wedge that makes the stack inevitable
The thesis is broad. The first company must be narrow.
The correct wedge has four properties: it solves an immediate painful problem, produces unique value data through ordinary use, creates economic upside for participants, and naturally expands into another layer of the architecture.

The first task of Valyous’ founding steward is not to build all four. It is to identify the one whose success makes the others increasingly necessary.
10. A mission worthy of superintelligence
More capable systems will arrive inside the incentive structures we have already built. If those structures reward extraction, opacity and concentrated control, greater intelligence may simply make them harder to escape.
There is another path: build a civilization that can see more of its own values, allocate capital around verified mutual benefit, and keep its goals open to legitimate revision.
The future will optimize for something. Our work is to make that something worth wanting.
